A one-pan lasagne Bolognese with minced beef, tomatoes and broken lasagne sheets, finished in the oven with melted mozzarella.
A cast iron frying pan is a favourite in many kitchens for its durability, strength and versatility. From everyday dishes to this lasagne Bolognese, it is a useful piece of cookware to have to hand. Get your kitchen organised, take out your pan and try this recipe from Tramontina Brazil at home.
A rich tomato and minced beef sauce, pieces of lasagne and a melted mozzarella topping come together in one oven-safe frying pan, starting on the hob before a short finish in the oven. Have your kitchen knife and chopping board ready for the onion and garlic. Find the ingredients and method below.
The Tramontina 30cm pre-seasoned cast iron skillet is the focus of this UK adaptation. Its cast iron construction distributes heat evenly, and it can be used on the hob, including induction, and in the oven. This versatility brings together the two stages of the original recipe: cooking the Bolognese and pasta on the hob, then finishing the mozzarella topping in the oven.
The skillet comes pre-seasoned, with a natural seasoning layer rather than an enamel coating. It has a helper handle and two pouring lips, making it a versatile piece for frying, sautéing and baking as well as this one-pan lasagne.
Follow the care instructions for your skillet when heating and cleaning it. Always use protective mitts to handle the hot cookware, and place it on a protective mat if serving at the table. Wash it by hand: a dishwasher can remove the seasoning and cause rust. Explore our cookware collection for more ways to prepare and share your favourite dishes.
Prepare the sauce:
Heat the olive oil in an oven-safe frying pan following the pan manufacturer's care instructions. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent.
Add the beef:
Add the minced beef, season with salt and black pepper, and cook through.
Cook the pasta:
Add the tomatoes, crushing them into the mixture. Stir in the water and broken lasagne sheets. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes, until the pasta is cooked.
Finish in the oven:
Top with the grated mozzarella and place the oven-safe pan in an oven at 180°C for 10 minutes, until the cheese topping is melted and golden.
Serve:
Finish with chopped parsley, if using, and serve.
